The biggest thing you can do to reduce your cost is insulate your home. Hire a professional out of the yellow pages to install 3M film on all the windows in your home. It cost me about $500 for it, but not only are the windows now hurricane-proof (bulletproof, too) but they also release a lot less heat into the air.
Also, how old is your A/C unit? If it’s between 12-15 years old, it’s due for a replacement. Make sure not to purchase a new A/C with a SEER rating below 13. Go for as high as you can.

Hey Tampa.. I’m in Texas and I’m feeling the money thing with you. During the day I keep it at 78 and push it to 80 when away from the house. At night we sleep at 76, but use ceiling fans to feel cooler. I made sure to get my AC checked and tuned up. That seemed to help it run better and less often too.
Candlelight is nice at night and I found it’s not really necessary to use a light to go to the bathroom either…lol.

I searched several air conditioning websites and found http://www.easyac.net to be the most informative and knowledgeable. They actually have a page dedicated to saving on your monthly utility bill. Under their AC Tips, they also provided a Coupons Page with an assorted selection of different services that they provide. Worth going to and start saving in all sorts of ways.

Tampa Air Conditioning can get very expensive this time of year. The fastest ways to lower your AC bill include: 1. Ensure your AC system is properly maintained, tuned-up, filters changed, refrigerant levels right, etc. 2. Ensure your AC unit is the proper size — a higher SEER unit will save you money over time. 3. Install and turn on a ceiling fan. 4. Raise your thermostat — for every 1 degree your raise it, it will lower your AC energy cost by 7% to 10%! I get this info from a Tampa Air Conditioning company called Easy AC http://www.easyac.net .
